Why are Mekhala's products vegan?

Jang, our co-founder, turned to veganism from the age of 3, after watching her mother butcher a live chicken in their backyard! Hence, all the meals at the retreat are vegan, and consequently, all Mekhala products are vegan.

Why do you have non-vegan recipes on your site?

Daphne, our other co-founder, is not vegan, and whilst she endeavours to reduce her meat intake, she believes Mekhala should offer recipe ideas for both vegan and non-vegan customers.

Is Mekhala a Thai or Singaporean company?

Mekhala is a Singapore/Thai company! Our brand is uniquely South East Asian - our headquarters are in Singapore, our manufacturing facility in Thailand, and our flavours are inspired by foods from around the region!

Do you process any gluten or nuts or animal products at your facility?

Mekhala is a gluten, nut and animal cruelty-free facility! This also means no dairy, honey, eggs or shellfish.

What's so special about organic?

When we first started making sauces and pastes, we were aghast by the lack of quality control as well as the amount of pesticides used in raw materials that go into such products. Hence, we decided to commit to creating organic foods certified by international standards, so that customers can rest assured that the Mekhala foods they are consuming are as clean as we claim them to be. It took us 2.5 years and many false starts before we finally got our EU and USDA NOP certificates. We are now also GMP and HACCP certified, thereby adhering to the high standards recognized in the food manufacturing industry.

Can you provide the ingredients list and nutrition information please?

A list of ingredients for each product is available on the product page. For nutrition information, please go to the Global Store, select the category and product to take a closer look at the labels. Take note that nutrition information for pastes is per 100gm.

This product claims to be gluten free, but it contains soy sauce. Can you tell me what type of soy sauce it contains?

We use a gluten-free soy sauce made from brown rice in place of wheat.

Where can I find the closest stockist or how to buy?

For online purchases, got to "SHOP ONLINE" in the menu bar, select "Singapore Store" if you're based in Singapore. For Australia, Canada, France, Germany, UK, USA customers, select "International Store". Unfortunately, due to logistical issues, our Global Store is currently unavailable. Go to "WHERE TO BUY" in the menu bar, select " International Store Locater" and enter your postcode and country. What's the shelf life?

Pastes and sauces: 18 months before opening, refrigerate and ok to consume for up to 1 month after opening. Rice, Oil, Salt, Spices and Seasonings: 3 years

What's the best way to use your products?

Each product label has a recipe suggestion. We also provide lots of recipes on our "Recipes" section, just search by category and/or tag.
